On October 21, 2004 Canada Post issued two stamps honouring all 94 Canadian recipients
of the Victoria Cross. The only living recipient Mr. Ernest Alvia (Smoky) Smith received
his Victoria Cross for exceptional gallantry during the Italian Campaign of the Second
World War. Throughout the years he has selflessly offered his services to his country
and has been a remarkable ambassador for Veterans and remembrance. You can view a short video featuring Canada's only surviving Victoria Cross winner recalling his war experience.
