The 1973 issue of four
se-tenant stamps featured reproductions of famous
Canadian paintings: The Ice Cone by Robert Todd, Behind
Bonsecours Market by William Raphael, Indian
Encampment by Thomas Davies, and The Woolsey
Family by William Berczy. |
|
The stamps were issued in
4 x 5 sheets (perf 11.5). |
|
14,597 sets were sold,
with 3000 used on first day covers. |

As Canada Post used The
Ice Cone in the design of the 10-cent Christmas stamp
in 1974, combination covers, using the official Canadian
First Day Cover were prepared, with the Kaulbach Island
issue affixed to the front and tied with the
"Inbound" cancel, which was permissable since
the local stamps were affixed after the piece left the
postal system. 500 such covers were prepared, with net
proceeds used to purchase a U.S. 5-cent 1847 stamp for
the Canadian Postal Museum. See Combo Cover. |
