The Admiral Stamps of Canada

The War Tax Overprints

Introduction

The five-cents overprint is known to have been used from stamps printed on Plates 5, 6, 9 and 10. The use of the latter two plates is somewhat puzzling, in that the overprint format had been changed to read Inland Revenue War Tax (see example below) before the date that the two plates were approved.

The twenty-cents Overprint was used on sheets printed from Plates 2 and 3, and the fifty-cents from sheets printed on Plate 1.

Numbers of either the number overprinted, or the numbers received by the postal authorities from the printers are completely unknown. There are no records whatsoever in existence.
