Introduction

The booklet form of the two-cents green was issued in two formats, the pane-of-six type, consisting of two rows of three and was issued in booklets containing two panes each, and the four-of-four type, which was issued with the combination booklets. The early printings of the six-pane issue were made from plates 19 and 20 that were used for the two cents carmine. Additional plates were struck for the later printings, using the re-engraved die. Only two plates were struck for the four-pane variety, which was printed in Type Z format (see Formats). Plate 1 was made from the retouched die, while Plate 2 was made from the re-engraved die. Plate 2 was made, however, only a few months before the change in postal rates that occured 1 July 1926, which lessened the demand for combination booklets. Consequently, booklet panes printed from Plate 2 are rare. See Summary for more detailed information about the plates.
