First Ottawa Period
Four denominations were issued during this period - One, Two, Three and Six Cents.

All plates made had lower left position dots and had either Type III or Type IV imprints, placed centrally top and sides and bottom. Additionally a Counter was added to one side or the other of the top imprint.
Stamps are generally on good quality wove paper, usually creamy, but in 1872 some were printed on a very white thin wove. The Thick Soft paper also comes from this period c.1871.
Perforations gauge either just under 12 or just over 11.75.
